Acting Director Presents At ISSA Social Security Forum For The Americas

We would like to recognize our Acting Director, Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe Boynes, for her exemplary presentation at the ISSA Virtual Social Security Forum for the Americas.

The conference was held from December 1-3 and was attended by over 700 global registered participants. The ISSA Virtual Forum allowed world leaders to identify strategic and practical solutions to key social security priorities. Acting Director of the BVI Social Security Board, Jeanette Scatliffe Boynes, participated by offering a unique examination of ‘Gender Considerations in Social Security’.

In her discussion, Scatliffe Boynes highlighted the global need for attention to be placed on gender equality. To do so, she noted that there is a need to widen the scope in which benefits, and support are offered; suggesting that systems be reconfigured to offer adequate support to women, children and the marginalized in general.

When asked “In which way have social protection measures been gender-responsive in your country, taking into consideration the context of the current pandemic”, Ag. Director Scatliffe Boynes highlighted the injection of $62.9 million dollars into the economy by the Government of the Virgin Islands. She also commented on the equal responsivity to the social protection measures between the male and female population.

Following the question “What are your institutions top three priorities in terms of promoting gender equality in the long term?”, Scatliffe Boynes outlined that the BVI Social Security Board will seek to promote gender equality by prioritizing gender, alongside disability, age, and other marginalizing factors; specifically, as it pertains to needs assessments and decision. The institution will also support social protection programs that respond to gender-based violence and integrate approaches that prevent and respond to violence of the same. Moreover, the BVI Social Security Board will support the implementation of family-friendly actions like paternity leave and flexible working policies.

The British Virgin Islands Social Security Board is a member of the International Social Security Association “ISSA”, the world’s leading international organization for social security institutions.
