The Social Security Board invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the post of  Paralegal.

This position is responsible for coordinating care for a targeted caseload of high-risk beneficiaries and those receiving overseas care. Develops, implements, and revises a plan of care with the beneficiary, providers and his or her caregivers to meet identified goals.

Essential Functions

1) Assist in ensuring that the Legal Department functions within the established guidelines and operating efficiencies by:

  • Organizing and maintaining all legal records in an efficient filing system at the Board.
  • Maintaining an accurate database of all pending or threatened litigation
  • Performing all aspects of administrative preparation for legal matters, particularly litigation, including attendance at court appearances to take notes and drafting of court documents, as may be necessary.
  • Undertaking legal research, analyze information and construct legal reports
  • Writing first drafts of correspondence, legal documents, policies, reports, minutes and proofreading/formatting final drafts.
  • Keeping up to date with legislative, regulatory and industry-related developments, changes and trends.

2) Provide support to Counsel on legal matters

3) Assist with managing special legal projects and with the preparation of legal documents

4) To perform a number of other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described or as assigned.

5) Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of ECSC rules and procedures
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in person and in writing
  • Be highly organized and understand the importance of deadlines
  • Be highly trustworthy, discreet and use of good judgment
  • Exceptional word processing and record management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Job Qualifications & Experience

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Field of study: Paralegal Studies/Law
  • Work Experience: 2 to 3 years
  • Certifications/Licenses Required: Paralegal degree or a diploma in law or legal certificate
